Malefick Musick: Dark Rock

Giving The Devil His Due...

Malefick Musick Friday the 13th playlist: Devil Rock - "Dark Folk Rock", Mysteries of The Black Earth, urban legends, The Devil, witches, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, Unidentified Flying Objects, Sasquatch, etc. Dracommended listen on shuffle mode.

Each one of these artists were touched by The Devil and inspired by the infernal in their own way*; following are some of My impressions. Indeed, throughout all genres, The Devil has the Best Tunes... ∞

  • AC⚡DC - Hell's Bells {Back In Black}: This song definitely contains a dark energy to it, especially in the introductory tolling of the Hell Bell, and subsequent strains. Reminiscent of the beginning of a sinister rite, and the opening of the gates, awaiting for something to come forth. Especially reminiscent in the lines "If you're into evil, you're a friend of mine..." Even the name of band has been postulated as meaning "Anti-Christ Devil's Children", though the band would deny it as meaning nothing more than alternating and direct current; although it can be considered inherently Satanic even so in the de-facto genius of Nikola Tesla {not counting Alexander Graham Bell's plagiarism and extortion of his ingenuity}, whose technological intelligence would have been considered Devil-inspired, as pioneers often are. Plus the lightning bolt may not only refer to electricity, but the "S" in Satan. The band should really just go with it, as should KI⚡⚡ {"Knights In atan's ervice"; The Four-Crown Princes of Rock 'N' Roll Hell} - it will work extremely well for them both. "I'm gonna' getcha', Satan'll getchya'."
  • Santana - Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen: Creates a dark ambiance with a Voodoo-like tribal feel, sustaining and growing a subtle malevolence. "Santana" reminds of "Satanas" and the demonic Santa Ana devil winds which blow through southern Kalifornia and the city of Dark Angels. An homage to the wiles of the wicked witch.
  • The Eagles - Hotel California: Touted as referring to the early Church of Satan, the mansion images were actually taken at The Beverly Hills hotel; the infamous window phantom image in the courtyard of a mysterious form emerging from the shadows indeed appears that it could very well be Magus LaVey. The song themes seem to alternate between a visit to The Black House and Witch Jayne Mansfield's Pink Palace. Along with "Doctor", Magus LaVey was also sometimes referred to as "Captain", and 1969 c.e. {Year III Anno Satanas} was when The Satanic Bible was published.
  • The Eagles - Witchy Woman: An homage to the Satanic witch and all of her blissful attributes.
  • Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven: Pan The Piper takes us right into the shadowy forest amidst the resident fauns and nymphs, dark hellementals where one is welcomed home amongst the enchanted woods, where all is not always what it seems.
  • King Harvest - Dancing In the Moonlight: The charming beginning tones captivate with an evocative quality, escorting the listener into a jovial nocturnal jaunt with others of like-mind in a celebration of the mysteries and pleasures, treasures, and joys of life.
  • Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized: A recognition of the mysteries of the black earth, that those of a darkened persuasion may share and be empowered by ancient secrets.
  • Tori Amos - Father Lucifer: So it has been said that redheads make natural witches, and here one such an enchantress gives The Devil His due and realizes her origins.
  • Rush - The Trees: Yes, there is a consciousness with trees, feeling, growing beings imbued with life reaching towards sustenance, providing the environment and inhabitants with beauty, oxygen, food, and shade, even Magical elements, of herbs and earthly energies, whispers upon the wind, with gnarled roots reaching deep down to Hell.
  • The Eagles - One Of These Nights: "The full moon is calling, The fever is high, and the wicked wind whispers And moans. You got your demons, You got desires, Well I got a few of my own." Witchcraft floats by the light of the moon, and vibrant urges quell to be mutually quenched. An anticipation of carnal delights. "I've been searching for the daughter of The Devil Himself, I've been searching for an angel in white. I've been waiting for a woman who's a little of both, And I can feel her but she's nowhere in sight." True joy comes with a balance of both - the veritable adventurous demoness vixen in bed, with an appearance of erstwhile innocence longing for sweet indulgence. A rare combination indeed.
  • Warren Zevon - Werewolves Of London: Likened synchronicities. Note that each "scary" attribute described is echoed with similar traits.
  • Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bad Moon Rising: Precognitive warnings and premonitions of doom as an atmosphere of dread lingers beneath the glowing moon, admonishing the wayfarer to take the proper precautions.
  • America - You Can Do Magic: "You know darn well when you cast your spell, you will get your way, when you hypnotize with your eyes, a heart of stone can turn to clay." Speaks to the dynamics of Sorcery, utilizing Greater and Lesser Magic to gain one's desires. Also indicative of the raging hellfires of Lust tempered with a lover's touch.
  • Pilot - Magic: "It's Magic, you know... Never believe it's not so." Excellent advice. See the 7th Satanic Rule of The Earth.
  • Heart - Magic Man: Seduction, attraction, merging of like kind. A restless girl explains her yearning for the Magical man of her dreams, probably a Warlock.
  • The Steve Miller band - Abracadabra - Arcane Words of Power found in grimoires spoken by Mages to summon forth etheric forces unto manifestation, by the projection of The Will unto concentrated thought-forms, sometimes even unto physical appearance in a conducive atmosphere of materialization. Forbidden knowledge, forbidden rites that the Sorcerer may wield the Power of A God.
  • Gordon Lightfoot - If You Could Read My Mind: A haunting tune about a "ghost" used as a euphemism for a man who feels invisible, and how much he wishes the woman of his desires could read his mind of his affection for her. Various metaphorical scenarios of love lost, confusion, and hopeless acquisition. Insinuates telepathy and discarnate congress with the dead.
  • The Alan Parsons Project- Eye in the Sky: Revelations of indiscretion through clairvoyance and telepathy, denoting motivations and patterns of thought and action; such abilities are often symbolized by The Third Eye, and Eye of Horus. Also, an eye in the sky can hypothetically see beginnings and endings above the maze of confusion; thus, it is wise to see the larger picture.
  • Jefferson Starship - Miracles: In the process of Magic, 'positive thinking and positive actions lead to [favorable] results' {TSB paraphrased}. Along with the ability to Curse and gain lustful desires, Magic is also used for compassionate purposes like healing and financial acquisition. That which seems impossible can be shifted towards all possibilities with the study and application of Magic, be it used to help or hinder. Belief and desire are the seeds of materialization.
  • The Highwaymen - Highwayman: A beautifully inspiring song about survival beyond the grave with several tales of remarkable life pursuits; Satanically speaking, it would be reminiscent of 'Life after death through the fulfillment of the Ego', and "...your spirit - your immortal spirit - shall live, not in an intangible paradise, but in the brains and sinews of those whose respect you have gained." {The Satanic Bible, SATAN 3:9}. Otherwise, the song expresses ideas of reincarnation, ghostly perpetuation, and transfiguration into various elements and matter. Personally reminds Me of 'The Old Man'.
  • The Cult - The Witch: Indeed, the Witch has what you 'need' {and often want}, and what she has is good, be it spells, readings, crafts, or her very own company.
  • Ghost Riders In The Sky - Johnny Cash: The tale of a cowboy witnessing fearsome specters reflecting familiar demonic qualities.
  • Three Dog Night - Shambala: "Shambala" is a mystical city in Buddhist tradition, similar to Ur, Atlantis, Carcosa, Shangri-La, and Cadiz, meaning "place of peace" in Tibetan. Also refers to peace of mind and a placid state of being. Interesting fact: Lion Togare LaVey lived at a wildlife preserve owned by actress Tippi Hedrin known as Shambala.
  • Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald: A memorial song for those who perished in this nautical disaster. It is said that the ghost ship has been seen sailing on Lake Superior from time to time.
  • Fleetwood Mac - Gypsy {Stevie Nicks}: Nomadic tribes with mystical traditions proficient at the arts of fortune telling, show business, illusion, hypnosis, deception, and prestidigitation; here perhaps symbolizing drifting from lover to lover displayed with a gypsy theme.
  • Olivia Newton-John - Magic: Hypnotic high glamor displayed herein replete with psychological nuances, covert leading suggestions, and guiding principles of verbal manipulation beautifully done. Seductive tones, floating notes, steady beats draws the listener into a euphoric trance. Recommended persuasion. Interestingly, Olivia Newton-John makes for a surprisingly splendid temptress & convincing Witch with this song. Show business is definitely The Devil's realm.
  • Queen - A Kind of Magic {Highlander}: An Immortal Sword and Sorcery adventure spanning the centuries. There can be only one.
  • Donovan - Season of the Witch: A Sultry, salaciously dark tune, just like its enchantingly concupiscent subject.
  • Classics IV - Spooky: The delightfully thrilling, chilling, days and nights with a favorite little witch.
  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Over At The Frankenstein Place: Follow that guiding "Star" to a most accommodating Lair. An infernal light in the darkness.
  • Oingo Boingo - Weird Science: Promethean technology that may yield immortality, and the construction of Artificial Human Companions for pleasure, Power, and labor.
  • The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil: Through the ages, The Devil is a gentleman. Please show some class and taste.
  • Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath: For they gather in secret places 'neath the full moon to celebrate forbidden rites of darkness. Gather 'round for pleasure and Power.
  • Deep Purple - Burn: Forever tell the story. They thought they were going to burn the witch, but the hellfires consumed them instead. Burn...
  • Blue Öyster Cult - Veteran of the Psychic Wars: Thought-forms sent unto the ethers to targets, Curses and Spells, revenants and tulpas in myriad forms, manifesting from the shadows of the mind.
  • Blue Öyster Cult - Take Me Away: Interesting happenings with strange lights and objects in the sky, seemingly materializing, dematerializing through portals, while mysterious Men in Black dwell in the shadows, waiting, observing... blinding light, lost time, vehicular malfunctions, the black noise...
  • The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Fire: Quite obviously a Curse with the summoning of The Fire Demon in likened presentation, and the repudiation, condemnation, & immolation of the sacrifice in the flame of destruction.
  • Redbone - The Witch Queen Of New Orleans: Homage to Voodoo Queen & Priestess, the legendary Mambo Marie Laveau, who still reigns the bayou; Hail Damballa.
  • Screamin' Jay Hawkins - I Put A Spell On You: Theatrically alludes to the Witch Doctor and Shaman capable of very real compelling Spells and Curses upon those who will inevitably and irresistibly fall under one's sway.
  • The Legend of Boggy Creek - Lonely Cry: Reflecting upon the Sasquatch creatures, missing links to humanimals, who themselves preserve families and private societies. Preferring dense wooded areas, mountainous regions, and swampland for security and the availability of resources. Indian tribes recognize them as just another tribe of beings with mutual respect. The film concentrates upon a legendary single yeti not known to have relatives or fellow skukum; however, perhaps one at a time is only what most human witnesses have seen, and at times, heard. 'Bigfoot' & other cryptids represent wonder and mystery. In Dracomeroth, it is recommended to keep a black candle burning all night in their honor as one of the XXVII Nights of Halloween observances, also reflective on Friday the 13th.
  • The Buoys - Timothy: They say 'Timothy' had very good taste. Based on true events.
  • Midnight in the Desert - Crystal Gayle: Originally written for the preferable Coast To Coast AM with Art Bell, this is indeed quite an enchanting song sung by the equally enchanting Crystal Gayle. Her siren's voice, bewitching eyes, and extensive, silky flowing locks have made her a ravishing enchantress. Subjects typically range from Witchcraft, folklore, urban legends, cryptids, ghosts, to U.F.O.'s, technology, conspiracy theories and a plethora of intriguing uncommon subject matter in-between. Great nocturnal entertainment and contemplations.
  • Gerard McMann - Cry Little Sister {The Lost Boys soundtrack}: With strains of catechism brainwashing in the choral performance, this song exudes the impression of dark flight; vampires preying upon local humans. The pipe organ adds a wonderfully wicked mystical feel engendering euphoria.
  • The Smiths - How Soon Is Now (The Craft): Natural Witches explore their abilities through knowledge & practice. They achieve their own desires and any they so choose to favor.
  • Morrissey - Ouija Board: A grieving, lonely man seeks the aid of a fortunate teller to peer beyond the veil to contact a loved one via this clairvoyant tool of psychic stimulation; to open The Third Eye, physically present as the Pineal Gland.
  • Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight: The sensation of impending doom, or the growing feeling of darkness and anticipation in the performance of Magical workings, and otherwise carnal indulgence; exhilarating, awe-inspiring, foreboding.
  • Coven - Black Sabbath: A splendidly wicked piece from one of the premiere Dark Occult Rock groups featuring the Grand Sabbath and Witchcraft themes, sung by practicing Witch Jinx Dawson. Side two of the "Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls" opus features actual litany from the Black Mass {see The Satanic Rituals}, with some extra horror elements thrown in for shock value and psychodramatic stimulation. This video features scenes from "Häxan: Witchcraft Through The Ages", an occult phantasmagoria of nightmarish spectacles.
  • Black Widow - Come To The Sabbat: Known for performing mock sacrifices on stage, this band incorporates various arcane instruments for a truly medieval feel, as well as reproductions of chants and beats used in occult ceremonies, serving as a magnet to ancient demonic energies.
  • Blue Öyster Cult - {Don't Fear} The Reaper: Quite a Satanic song, actually, in the sense of concentrating on the now and enjoying life to the fullest, without a preoccupation with death per se, save for certain artistic elements. Although it can be said that the grim "Reaper" enjoys certain cooperations. Besides, the song does exude an enjoyably eerie quality.
  • Van Halen - Runnin' with The Devil: "Take that which tempts whenever you can." But also remember, "Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved." {Satanic Rule Of The Earth #6}. Satan represents the balance of opposites, and the third-side perspective; observe the Sabbatic Baphomet wielding light and dark universal properties. Besides that, "The Devil is My co-pilot." Brother and friend.
  • Shriekback - Nemesis: An intense and aesthetically beauteous video featuring Pagan / Satanic depictions of indulgence, and affirming the humanimal beast as natural predator; a calling and welcoming of dark hellemental forces.
  • The Electric Hellfire Club - Bitchcraft: The wile and guile of The Satanic Witch while preserving perspective as "You're just another 'sacrifice' for My Main Man...", recognizing The Source.
  • XTC - Dear God: A dissatisfied customer writes an erstwhile letter to a blindlight deity detailing some of its historically rotten traits, hypocrisy, and tyranny, yielding an evolution towards Atheism; and maybe an even further "Devilution" towards I-Theism.
  • Depeche Mode - Blasphemous Rumors: A series of tragedies begs the question of the existence of an idealized 'God', as doubt liberates from unnecessary guilt and the notion of an externalized parental deity in favor of intelligent self-determination; Recommended reading: The God of Assholes by Magus Anton Szandor LaVey, Satan Speaks; The Anti-Christ by Frederick Nietzsche.
  • Tori Amos - God: The succulent, erubescent Witch defies overbearing ersatz lordships of fictional deities with inquisitive logic.
  • Roky Erickson - Stand for the Fire Demon: One of the more remarkable songs from this extraordinary album, The Evil One. Describes summoning forth the Demon of Fire, which would in essence be Satan, as representative of the Fire Hellement. Emerging to grasp the supplication - while some may even request a 'sign' of manifestation, and so when bestowed in any number of multi-sensory environmental and/or atmospheric reactions, the parchment is consumed in the flames of Hell.
  • Queen - Princes of the Universe {Highlander}: To the Lover of Life, immortality is most appealing, especially to those who have overcome adversity and have earned their place, and making the most of existence every single night and day, endless creation, evolution, sustenance, productivity. Therefore, it is a natural gravitation towards Vampirism and Transhumanism, indefinite revitalization via Magic and Science working in conjunction, and it will be discovered that one frequently compliments the other. Inside & Outside, Mind & Body: Stem cell research, transplants, to cosmetic operations, physical training, and absorption of life force. Ultimately, the axiom proves evident in "Use it or lose it." Contemplation unto Materialization; idealization, Force of Will unto reality. Endless and timeless regeneration. ∞
  • AC⚡DC - Back in Black: The Black Drægon returns in an endless cycle of regeneration as the Phoenix and Ouroboros; also in sudden bursts of inspiration and creativity.
  • The Charlie Daniels Band - The Legend Of Wooley Swamp: It was his own money to do with as he pleased, and apparently, his misanthropy was well founded considering the lowly dispositions of those who envied him. Should have invested some in security and weapons. Also, the story asserts to sometimes accept that which you do not understand yet, but still operates in your favor, which frequently becomes revealed in retrospect to decipher the dynamics of Infernal Machinations, as well as the recognition and cooperation with those mysteries that pervade the darkened recesses of inner and outer nature, the shadow side of the mind and the world.
  • Oingo Boingo - No Spill Blood: Based on The Island of Dr. Moreau {H.G. Welles}, the song coincides with Satanic Statement #7 & Das Tierdrama {The Satanic Rituals}; the lycanthrope, the evolved Humanimal Beast; ergo, "There is a Beast in man that should be exercised, not exorcised."

  • Lee Hazlewood, Nancy Sinatra - Some Velvet Morning {Phædra}: A haunting tune with an etheric quality.
  • Manfred Mann - Blinded By The Light: Speaks to the blindlight of white-light religions. Defined in Dractionary as "Judeo-xian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, Weaka, "New-Age", & other white-light religions. (noun - Blindlighters)."; whereas true wisdom is attained with the study and responsible application of moderation & reason, likened symbolically as appropriate lighting instead of overbearing garishness. Plus, Anton LaVey trained lions in the circus, learned secret methods from fortune tellers and magicians; and played calliope as "The Great Szandor" {A poster description: "Professor Anton Szandor LaVey: THE GREAT SZANDOR - Player of THE CALLIOPE - Both Steam & Air - And Artist and Manipulator of The Aeolian Band Organ"}.
  • Night Ranger - Sister Christian: A girl reaching maturity naturally longs for the freedom of life's pleasures, but must break away from stifling catholic dogma, and into the Strong arms of The Lord of The Earth.
