The Sturgeon & The Moon

What an interesting fish is the sturgeon. It has cogs for scales, and a spiky & stud-looking ridge-back like an alligator. A fluted snout, and can be rather large, but they are gentle giants. They have been around since prehistoric eras, and because they can have an eel-like appearance, perhaps are sometimes mistaken for lake monsters, perhaps even Nessie or Ogopogo, or Champ sightings. They tend to migrate upstream, and have a mouth full of whiskers like a catfish that look like tendrils.

Could very well have been the aesthetic inspiration for the vessel "Nautilus" in 1,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Looks like a sturgeon to Me.

American Natives named the August full moon the sturgeon moon because these fish were readily caught this month. Also known as the Green Corn Moon {because it is still a month until the full Autumn harvest}, & the Red Moon, because of the red haze usually accompanying the first appearance near the beginning of the month. This August has two full moons, with the second considered the rare blue moon, because of the blue hue. ∞
