Does "666" Represent Success or Satan?
The Epoch Times, Jun 10, 2006

June 6, 2006 is the first date with three sixes since one century years ago. In the Bible, a verse from the Book of Revelation indicates that 666 represents the "number of the beast" and is associated with Satan. In Chinese culture, however, sixes are believed to mean success and good fortune. According to the Bible, 666 can be used to recognize the beast and anti-Christ people. Therefore, for people with hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia, or fear of the number 666, June 6, 2006 is a frightening day. The numbers 666 cannot be avoided.

In general, the number 666 is avoided in western society. When former President Reagan moved from the White House to Bel-Air, a city near Los Angeles, he changed his address from 666 to 668 because of its connotations. In 1999, when CPU manufacturer Intel was naming Pentium III, which has a speed of 666.666 MHz, they rounded up and named it Pentium III 667.

The Omen, a remake of the 1976 classic Hollywood horror movie, opened on June 6, 2006. The Omen is about a boy who has the 666 Satan mark, and becomes the Devil on his sixth birthday. The boy is set on turning around people's beliefs and destroying the world.

On the other side of the globe, Chinese people believe the opposite. According to Asia News, an average of 50 couples register to marry on any normal day in Singapore, but on June 6, 2006, 310 couples took the marriage oath. This was a record high since Valentine's Day in 1995, when 1082 couples were married.

According to Beijing Entertainment News, many lovers waited in line at the Marriage Registration offices in Beijing on June 6, 2006. There were about two or three hundred couples registered for marriage at each location. In order to satisfy those wishing to get married, the staff at the Marriage Registration offices worked overtime, so all those waiting in line could receive their marriage certificates.
