The Warlock's Cat

The Warlock's Cat
By Jane Yolen

A shadow of a shadow
Slipping in and out of night,
With his claws and teeth like starshine
Flickering on the edge of sight.

He is blacker than a night wind
He is darker than a coal,
For he's the outward casting
Of his fearsome Master's soul.

The Devil's Garden

"Dracunculus vulgaris is a species of aroid in the genus Dracunculus and is known variously as the Dragon Arum, the Black Arum, the Voodoo Lily, the Snake Lily, the Stink Lily, the Black Dragon, the Black Lily, Dragonwort, and Ragons. In Greece, part of its native range, the plant is called Drakondia, the long spadix being viewed as a small dragon hiding in the spathe."

Perhaps it is not too surprising that we have been graced by Belial with Dragonwort, completely unexpected, growing near the front door complimenting My namesake - three so far at this time, with a fourth bud on the way. and growing fast.

This genus tends to attract flies, so I thought it would make complete uncommon sense to plant some venus fly traps nearby to consume them, where they will thrive, and keep the population controlled. So we have been here a scant relatively short period thusfar, and now this confirming assurance directly from the black earth. After all, what kind of garden would The Devil have? This would absolutely be amongst the populace. We also plan on acquiring various other carnivorous flora and fauna, including pitchers, and black lilies and roses as well, not to mention several others for a prognosticated Devil's Garden. ∞
