Aerobics or Martial Arts?

blackdragon_zpsuw0yb7adI have always promoted a combination of Martial Arts & Bodybuilding as the ultimate physical training regimen. Bodybuilding for increased strength and aesthetics, an optimum metabolism, Martial Arts for self-defense and mental concentration and focus, discipline, tenacity, overall mind/body balance, specialized accuracy, flexibility, dexterity, etc., and... cardiovascular exercise. It is part of the entire process, not the be all end all like these 'aerobicize' classes. You get the aerobics plus so much more, so it is a bit disappointing to see people limiting themselves with just aerobics, just calisthenics, dynamic tension, or just weight training {regular gyms}, or just stretching {yoga} - all of these and more fit into a Martial Arts class along with self-defense lessons, so why not go for the superior choice? All may be taken separately at various locations throughout the week {some dojos actually offer separate classes in several styles}, but a best combination would offer all three in one course. Of course, extra-curricular activities may be pursued for specialized focus.

The class usually begins with meditation, stretching, warm-up, then proceeds through to kata & new lesson, sparring, warm-down, and meditation. The stimulating positions of yoga should be integrated.

I initiated various experimental phases from training in various styles of Martial Arts such as Kenpo, Judo, Kendo, Tae Kwon Do, Hap-Ki-Do, Ninjutsu, and more. Then proceeded to yoga at home through books and a televised presentation, to Weight-training with free weights and machines, at gyms and The Lair, eventually formulating a personal synthesis of all these.

Ayay... Eye Candy

Lustful Contemplations

As far as Aerobics are concerned, I enjoyed taking sneak peaks into the aerobics rooms at Rocky's and appreciating the curves on the early morning 20 Minute Workout while playing along.

Like Dogym, the idea is part dojo, part gym. There should be a sparring area like a mat or carpet, and a weights area combination, indoor and/or outdoor options, motivational images/posters, inspirational presentation {like Pumping Iron, educational documentaries, and otherwise whatever suits the occasion}, music, at least one full length mirror, and a "shrine" focal point for meditation {even upon a pentagram carpet}, among other particular elements.

So instead of just aerobics, Martial Arts would be a superior option overall. ∞
